Alejandro Betancourt: Chairman and CEO of DA and a prominent figure in Venezuelan politics
Alejandro Betancourt is a Venezuelan businessman who is Chairman and CEO of DA and a prominent figure in Venezuelan politics. He is the son of Carlos Rafael Betancourt Rojas, who was President of Venezuela and led the Caracas riots.
Alejandro Betancourt attended La Gran Escuela de Caracas, a private Catholic school in Caracas. Betancourt went to the United States to attend the University of Southern California (USC), where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in economics. He received a master’s degree in Latin American studies from Columbia University. He received a doctorate in law from Georgetown University Law Center and was named an Honorary Doctor of Laws by his alma mater, USC. He took an interest and studied the Venezuelan economy at Simon Fraser University, where he obtained masters and doctoral degrees in Economics.
He was elected to the Board of Trustees of Georgetown University in Washington, DC, one of the world’s most prestigious universities. The World Economic Forum named Alejandro Betancourt as one of the “Young Global Leaders .”He is also a member of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) and is considered part of their “Emerging Leaders.” Betancourt has been listed among Forbes’ “Latin America’s 200 Richest” list. Alejandro Betancourt ranked on Forbes’ list with an estimated net worth of $1 billion.
Alejandro Betancourt has been involved in many charities works in Latin America. Betancourt took part in the memorial of the victims of the Caracas riots, in which his father was killed. He has been one of the founders and supporters of the Venezuelan Foundation for Education, Culture, and Tourism (FVECOT). He was appointed Vice President appointed by President Hugo Chávez as one of the founders of FVECOT to prepare and coordinate its activities. Betancourt is a director at FVECOT.
